A funeral is a very emotional and important family event.

The best advice I can give is that if you have to arrange a funeral select an experienced and reliable funeral direstor. This will make organising the funeral a smooth and seamless process with all the responsibility of co ordinating and arranging components given to your funeral director of choice.

Initially the funeral director will take charge of the body of the deceased.

He will guide you through the funeral options available and then implement your choices. In my experience a couple of 'phone calls and one or two face to face meetings and absolutely everything is taken care of.

Here is a list of the items you must consider when organising a funeral. This list is extensive but of course you may have other requests.
  • Are there any funeral instructions by the deceased
  • Is the deceased a organ donor
  • Consider death notices and their wording
  • Will there be a burial or cremation
  • Will the service be held in a church or funeral chapel
  • Will there be a viewing of the deceased. If so what clothing should be worn.
  • Any personal items on casket
  • What about the eulogy and will there be a formal 'order of service'
  • What flowers or maybe donations to a favourite cause
  • What prayers
  • Any music
  • Is transport required
  • Is there to be a function after the service and if so where

In summary, a good funeral director will ease your burden and make a potentially difficult task at a difficult time much easier than anticipated.
